2021 Fall 13.1 & 26.2 Training Kick Off Run!
June 29 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm
First run of the class! This run is open to anyone interested in trying the class out!
TUESDAY, JUNE 26 WORKOUT DETAILS
2021 Fall Training- 6/26- Lake Nokomis Community Center
Where: Lake Nokomis Community Center, 2401 E. Minnehaha Pkwy, Minneapolis, MN 55417. We will be meeting in the picnic area just east of the community center. This parking lot is rather small but there are other parking options; there is a larger lot just off to the east side of the building, and then also along Lake Nokomis. There is also a pay lot down closer to the lake.
When: 6:00 PM (arrive a little early)
What: Social Fartlek
Pace: Conversational. This means that you should be running at a pace where you can comfortably (not out of breath) talk to the person next to you. Rule of thumb is anywhere 30-90 seconds slower than your goal race pace. Within groups people can take turns picking an object that is within sight (like a trash can 30-50m away) in which everyone will speed up to. Overall the run should feel easy. The fartlek strides are just a little prep for speed work coming in the future weeks and a way to manage different needs within each group.
Why: We are continuing to build our aerobic base, and others are still recovering from Grandma’s marathon.
Distance: 3-7 miles depending upon which training calendar level you are using and whether you are training for a half or full marathon.
Route: We will start heading out on the west side of Nokomis (include the lagoon, so cross at Cedar Ave at 52nd), follow Cedar briefly past Fat Lorenzo’s and 58 Club, turn left at Bloomington at 60th, and follow Bloomington where you will come across Taft Lake (you may have run this lake before if you have run the Urban Wildland Half). You will loop the pond, and return back to Nokomis, closing the lake loop by running the east side. This will be just under 6 miles; add additional miles on Minnehaha Parkway if necessary. Coaches will ensure the route is chalked. TCM MILES: 12-13.5
